Lake County Planning & Zoning Permits

Permit application for soil disturbing activities, such as installing a driveway or for shoreline restoration projects. A Grade/Fill permit is not needed for structure placement only. Maintenance of existing driveways does not require a permit.

Permit application for the building or placement of structures, which includes anything placed, constructed, or erected over 3 feet in height and in the same location for over 30 days.

Permit Fees:
Dwelling/principal structure $200.00
All Other Structures Including Structure Change of Use (non-IUP) $50.00

Permit for short term rental (30 days or less) of a dwelling. Permitting process includes public hearings with the Planning Commission and renewals every 1-5 years.

Permit Fees:
Initial Vacation Rental Home $1,000.00
Renewal Vacation Rental Home $500.00

Application to request a variance from dimensional standards required in the Lake County Land Use Ordinance. This process involves a public hearing with the Board of Adjustment.

Application fee: $546 (includes Recording fee)
After-the-Fact fee: $1046 (includes Recording fee)

Permit application to install residential or commercial septic systems.

Permit fees:
New Non-Commercial System or expansion (including tanks) to existing system $500.00
Commercial/Cluster System/Expansion up to 2500 gpd design flow $1000.00
Commercial/Cluster System/Expansion 2501 to 10,000 gpd design flow $2,500.00
System Repair, Tank Replacement or Holding Tank/Vault Privy $300.00
